GAINESVILLE, Ga. -- Hall County reported its eighth confirmed rabies case of 2014 over the weekend.

A rabid raccoon made contact with a dog near Friendly Acres Drive in the northwestern part of the county, according to Hall County spokeswoman Katie Crumley.

Animal control officials captured the raccoon and shipped it to the Georgia Public Health Lab in Decatur, where it tested positive for rabies. They also posted warning signs in the area where the raccoon was caught.

The Hall County Animal Shelter offers $10 rabies vaccinations for household pets. The shelter is located at 1688 Barber Road in Gainesville.
