OAKWOOD, Ga. -- King's Hawaiian will hold a 5K fundraiser for Lanier Technical College this weekend.

The King's Hawaiian 5K will be Saturday, Feb. 28 on the Oakwood college's campus. Registration opens at 8:30 a.m., a mile fun run will start at 9:30 a.m., and the 5K will begin at 10 a.m.

The course will loop the campus twice. All runners will receive T-shirts, while prizes will be given to the top finishers, top masters finishers and top two runners in each age group.

After the race, runners will be treated to refreshments, including King's Hawaiian products.

Registration is $30. Money raised by the race will benefit the Lanier Technical College Foundation.

Upcoming Peachtree Road Race qualifiers

(WXIA) -- Registration for the 2015 AJC Peachtree Road Race opens Sunday, Mar. 15 (Sunday, Mar. 1 for Atlanta Track Club members).

Most runners will undoubtedly want to be placed in the highest possible time group. The best way to do this is to enter a finish time from a USATF-certified race (5K, 8K, 10K, 15K, 10-miler or half marathon).

A number of official Peachtree qualifiers will be held in the coming weeks. Here are a few of them:

OAKWOOD, Ga. -- Backpack Love, a Christian charity that feeds families in need, will hold a 5K fundraiser this weekend.

The Backpack Love 5K will be Saturday, Aug. 30 at 7:30 a.m. in Hall County. Runners can choose between 5K and Fun Run options.

Registration is $30 and includes a T-shirt. Awards will be given to the top male and female finishers, top masters finishers and top two runners in each age group.

Both races will be held at Oakwood City Park, which is located on Railroad Street in downtown Oakwood.

Mellow Mushroom hosting Sports Authority shopping spree contest

(WXIA) -- In honor of its role as sponsor of the 2014 AJC Peachtree Road Race, Mellow Mushroom is hosting a contest for the runners, athletes and weekend warriors in metro Atlanta.

The Atlanta-based pizza chain has debuted its Mellow Sports Sweep contest. Based on the old game show "Supermarket Sweep," the contest will give two lucky winners the opportunity to go on a 90-second shopping spree at Sports Authority.

To enter, create a 15-second Instagram video using #MellowSportsSweep explaining why you should win the contest.

The grand prize includes two race entries into the 2014 AJC Peachtree Road Race, one night at the W Atlanta - Buckhead, dinner for two at Mellow Mushroom and, of course, the Sports Authority sweep.

Race this weekend: Hall County Schools Fit Families 5K

GAINESVILLE, Ga. -- Hall County Schools will hold its third annual Fit Families 5K this weekend.

The race, which includes a fun run option, will be held Saturday, May 3 at Laurel Park in Gainesville. Registration is $20 on race day and includes a T-shirt. Money raised by the event will benefit local schools.

Packet pickup begins at 7:30 a.m. The fun run will be held first, at 9 a.m., while the 5K will be off and running at 9:30 a.m.

Atlanta Track Club launches scholarship program

Atlanta Track Club launches scholarship program

(WXIA) -- Youth running groups, rejoice -- the Atlanta Track Club has created a scholarship program just for you.

The Peachtree Jr. Participant Challenge will award scholarships to the three organizations that have the most children registered for the 2014 Peachtree Jr. or Lil' Peach Dash.

The first place team will be given a $1,500 scholarship, a $1,250 cash donation from the Atlanta Track Club and $250 in Sports Authority store credit. Two runners-up will each get $750 scholarships, $500 donations and $250 in Sports Authority credit.

"Through the Peachtree Jr. Participant Challenge, we are able to give back to organizations that share our goal of inspiring children to be healthier and more active," Atlanta Track Club Executive Director Rich Kenah said in a release. "Atlanta Track Club is proud to partner with Sports Authority to offer these scholarships to provide extra motivation to keep kids moving."

ATLANTA -- It's that time of year again -- time to register for the world's largest 10K.

AJC Peachtree Road Race lottery registration is now open. It will close Saturday, Mar. 22 at 11:59 p.m.

Those who are chosen for the race will be informed by Tuesday, Mar. 25.
