The Roads are Open; We Have Your Traffic Information at 11Alive.com

All the roads in Metro Atlanta are open today. You need to pack a huge load of patience while you get going though. There are many delays out there. For details on particular routes, check http://11alive.com/traffic.

The left lanes have ice in them. Stay out of those left lanes. Assume that all overpasses have ice on them; many have glaze ice that you will not be able to see until you are on them.

ALL of the on and off ramps have ice in them. Approach them slowly and carefully. If you speed onto an offramp or try to turn suddenly, you will slide and crash.

All have some ice on them. Most with three lanes ordinarily are down to two; most with two lanes regularly, are down to one lane.

Atlanta, GA--  (submitted by GA lottery)

Mega Millions is gearing up for a mega grab for Tuesday’s drawing. Because of increased sales, the jackpot was raised to an estimated $330 million to a single annuity winner. It only takes $1 for a chance to win big.

Any lucky player who matches all five white ball numbers, along with the Mega Ball number, could win approximately $12.6 million a year for 26 years with the annuity option. Or a player could select the cash option and win a single payment worth approximately $208 million.

Free New Year's Eve Events

There are of course lots of private and sometimes expensive parties to attend this New Years Eve, but where can you party for free.

The first one you probably already know about. The 22nd annual Peach Drop at Atlanta's Underground always is always where Atlanta rings in the New Year. It's billed as the largest New Year's Eve party in the Southeast, and this year will feature Tito Jackson as the headliner. If you go you're going to want to take MARTA. There's room for a hundred thousand people... Not a hundred thousand cars.

Destiny's Place Alive and Thriving in Gainesville

Three months ago we brought you the story of Shannon Imes, a Gainesville woman who had struggled with abuse and drug use but had turned her life around and was preparing to open a shelter for young women in need.

Today, the shelter is starting to blossom, and Imes keeps charging forward.

On Friday, the Destiny's Place house on East Ridge Road held its first Christmas Eve party, providing gifts, cake, and smiles for roughly 50 local kids.

"The kids in this area are overlooked and underserved," said Imes. "We wanted to show them there is power in Santa Claus."

Technically, Destiny's Place is a shelter for homeless young women, but it has also positioned itself as a place of love and hope for the Gainesville underprivileged community -- in part because of what it has received from the community.
