HALL COUNTY, Ga. -- Two Hall County parents were jailed after leaving their 9-month-old child on the side of the road.

The baby was left in a car seat Thursday afternoon near Petrofast Food Store at the corner of Old Cornelia Highway and Oconee Circle, in the Rabbittown area of Gainesville. A store clerk called the Hall County Sheriff's Office after spotting the child.

While employees waited for deputies to arrive, 33-year-old Heather Demonia arrived at the store and said she was the child's mother.

According to Hall County Sheriff's Deputy Nichole Bailes, Demonia and the baby's father, 30-year-old Thomas Broome, got into an argument. At some point during the fight, they abandoned their child on the side of the road.

Broome and Demonia were arrested and charged with reckless conduct. Bailes said more charges are pending.

The child was not hurt and was released to DFCS custody.
