GAINESVILLE | Brenau hopes new facility boosts economy | News
GAINESVILLE, Ga. -- Breneau University officials say they're hoping developers will build housing, restaurants and shops near the Georgia Mountains Center in Gainesville, which the school plans to convert into classroom space.
This week, Brenau President Ed Schrader outlined possible development plans for the area around the center.
Schrader says he hopes developers and businesses invest in the neighborhood to reap the benefits of an enrollment boost the university is projecting.
Brenau now enrolls 2,800 students, and school officials project that it will grow to 5,000 by 2025. Officials say many of the new students will study at the Georgia Mountains Center.
City officials recently approved a deal that allows Brenau to operate the Georgia Mountains Center and convert much of the convention center into classrooms.
