HALL COUNTY, Ga. – Hall is the tenth healthiest county in Georgia according to a new study published by CountyHealthRankings.com. The study was completed by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the University of Wisconsin Population Health Institute. It analyzed various health factors in counties across the nation including mortality morbidity, health behaviors, clinical care, social and economic factors and physical environment. Each county in the state of Georgia was ranked on a scale of 1 to 156 with 1 being the healthiest county in the state and 156 being the unhealthiest. Here’s a breakdown of how Hall fared in each of the categories: Mortality: 11 Morbidity: 12 Health Behaviors: 18 Clinical Care: 91 Social & Economic Factors: 29 Physical Environment: 58 Of all the counties in Georgia, Fayette County was ranked the healthiest.

Atlanta, GA--   The 2011 United Way Shoebox Project is currently underway, and like every year individuals and companies throughout the Atlanta area are filling up empty shoeboxes with much needed toiletries for homeless women and children.  Last year over 80 homeless shelters in the area received more than 15,000 shoeboxes to help fight homelessness.

Ways you can get involved 

  • Encourage your family, friends and co-workers to fill a shoebox with a combination of new, unopened items from the items needed list. To allow for safety inspections, please make sure your box can be opened. 
  • You can host your own shoebox party, and invite friends and neighbors to decorate and fill shoeboxes together.
  • Check online for drop-off locations and to sign up for volunteer opportunities.

Positive rabies alert in North Hall County

Positive rabies alert in North Hall County

Hall County, GA--  (submitted by Hall Public Information Officer)

A goat from the Baker Circle area of North Hall was shipped to the state lab to be tested for rabies. The goat was shipped to the University of Georgia in Athens. On February 4, Hall County Animal Services was advised that the goat was positive for rabies. This is the second confirmed case of 2011.

Positive alert signs will be posted in the area where the rabid goat was located. If you live in this area or you see an animal acting abnormally in the Baker Circle area, contact Hall County Animal Services at 770-531-6830 or during non-working hours call Hall County Dispatch at 770-536-8812.

Animal owners are encouraged to vaccinate their domesticated pets for rabies. Vaccines are available at the Hall County Animal Shelter for $10 Tuesday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., at 1688 Barber Road, Gainesville.

Blood Donations Needed; Lifesouth Opens 3 Locations today

Atlanta, GA--  According to LifeSouth, the inclement weather has increased the need for all types of blood and blood platelets at local hospitals in metro Atlanta.

LifeSouth Community Blood Centers usually supplies these hospitals with blood and the Gift of Life, but like the rest of the metro area they have been unable to open to collect nor deliver the blood. 

Now that the ice and snow has begun to melt, the mission continues and needs your help by coming to a center and donating blood.

The Gainesville, McDonough, and Dunwoody centers are expected to open today (Wednesday).

Hall County Pet Owners can get Rabies Shot and a Microchip for Your Pets Saturday 12/4

Atlanta, GA--  The Hall County Animal Shelter will offer a Rabies and Microchip Clinic from 12:30-4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 4, at Chicopee Woods Agricultural Center. Rabies shots are $10, microchip and registration is $20, or get both for $25.

Residents from all counties are welcome. Pets must be 3 months old to get a shot. Please bring your pet on a leash or in a carrier. Cash or checks are accepted.
