BEST SPOTS: Inexpensive Dates

NORTHEAST METRO – For this week’s installment of Best Spots, we’re compiling a list of Inexpensive Date Spots for you to take your special someone.

In today’s economy, it’s important to find companionship which, in our opinion, is the cheapest form of entertainment. However, it’s the springtime, and people like to get out every now and then. So, check out these suggestions for fun under $15.

If your date is a romantic, Athens-Clarke County Greenways and Riverside Parks are hosting a Full Moon Hike. This guided hike will be lighted by the full moon, which occurs on April 26. The hike begins at 8:00 p.m. and ends at 10:00 p.m. Athens residents will be admitted for a $2 fee, all non-residents will be charged $5.

Registration for the 7th Annual Spring Chicken Festival Cook-off is April 20th

Gainesville, GA --  More than two dozen cook teams have registered for the 7th Annual Spring Chicken Festival Chicken Cook-Off in downtown Gainesville Saturday, April 30 from 10am – 4pm. The cook off consists of two divisions: Professional and Backyard Bar-B-Q. Prizes will be awarded in both categories. The Grand Champion will receive $500 and proudly possess the coveted Chicken City Cup for one year.

April 20 is the registration deadline for the inaugural Chicken City Parade. The parade will include floats, vintage cars, and is sure to have some interesting chicken decorations.  Participants are encouraged to incorporate recycling when possible. The parade route will include the Gainesville Square. Cook off rules and guidelines as well as the parade registration form are available at www.keephallbeautiful.org.

On Saturday, April 16, 11-year-old jazz prodigy Morgan Guerin will play at the Arts Council Smithgail Arts Center at 8:00 p.m. He’ll play along with his quartet, the Morgan Guerin Quartet. This concert is an installment of the Evenings of Intimate Jazz Series. Tickets to the event are $30 per individual and $25 per tickets of groups of six more.

37 Main, a Rock Café in Downtown Buford will host Iron Mullet, an 80’s costume tribute band and Mad Margritt, an 80’s hair rock band.

Rep. Graves Sponsoring Service Academy Fair On March 26

U.S. Rep. Tom Graves (R-GA-09) announced today that he is sponsoring a 9th Congressional District Service Academy Information Fair on Saturday, March 26, for interested students in 8th grade or higher.  The fair will be held at Riverside Military Academy from 10:00 am until 1:00 pm.  Students are encouraged to RSVP to Congressman Graves’ office by March 21.
