GAINESVILLE, Ga. -- A 14-year-old student at Chestatee Middle School in Hall County was arrested Wednesday for threatening to "shoot up the school."

The student was taken into custody after another student overheard him make the threat at school, according to Hall County Sheriff's Sgt. Stephen Wilbanks. Investigators did not release his name because he is a juvenile.

The student was booked into the Gainesville Regional Youth Detention Center on one count of making terroristic threats.

Wilbanks said investigators never found evidence or plans of a possible shooting, such as weapons or a hit list. They are still looking into the incident.

SPECIAL REPORT: Drug traffickers operating Sandy Springs rehab center

11Alive News has learned that two metro Atlanta men who recently pled guilty to federal drug trafficking charges have been operating a Sandy Springs facility for recovering addicts for several years.

In October, federal prosecutors announced the indictment of Drew T. Green, Thomas Malone Jr. and eight others for drug trafficking, money laundering and conspiracy, alleging they were operating one of the largest synthetic drug cartels in the country.

Federal prosecutors say Green and Malone's company Nutragenomics sold millions of dollars worth of chemicals used to manufacture so-called designer drugs like synthetic marijuana and bath salts.

"I've come to a point where I refuse to use the term synthetic marijuana. It gives these poisons too much credence," said Lance Dyer whose son Dakota committed suicide after smoking a synthetic marijuana product named "Mr. Miyagi."

 "These drugs are literally poisons."

Assault suspect may be responsible for 2001 murder

GAINESVILLE, Ga. -- Police have made an arrest in the April 2001 murder of a Gainesville woman.

The suspect, 40-year-old Daniel Lee Mason III, was arrested Dec. 5 for assaulting a woman in Gainesville, according to Gainesville Police Cpl. Joe Britte.

Mason was arrested and taken to the Hall County Jail. The 39-year-old victim was treated at Northeast Georgia Medical Center.

During their investigation, police noticed several similarities between the assault and the 2001 murder of 37-year-old Crystal Star Barnette.

After following leads and vetting tips, investigators determined Mason was involved in Barnette's death and charged him accordingly, Britte said.

Mason now faces a number of charges related to the two cases, including murder, aggravated assault, battery, robbery, cocaine possession and giving false information.

GAINESVILLE, Ga. -- The trial for a north Georgia woman facing federal explosives and gun charges after federal agents raided her home in May is set to start next month.

Celia Savage is scheduled to appear before a federal judge in Gainesville Dec. 17 for the start of a jury trial.

When they raided her home, federal agents found two pipe bombs and a number of guns, as well as illegal drug paraphernalia and suspected marijuana, suspected methamphetamine and numerous pills. She told agents she had used marijuana the day before and had used methamphetamine two months before.

Her lawyer has said he believes prosecutors misinterpreted her anti-government Facebook postings and were too aggressive in going after her.

She has been out of jail on bond since July.

GAINESVILLE, Ga. -- Hall County Sheriff's officials have decided to try a Gainesville 15 year old as an adult in a child molestation case.

Daniel Lee Eller is accused of breaking into a house and molesting a 5-year-old girl in her bedroom, according to sheriff's spokesman Sgt. Stephen Wilbanks.

Investigators said Eller got into the home through an unlocked window at around 5 a.m. on July 30. The victim's mother caught him molesting her daughter, and the girl's father detained Eller until police arrived.

Eller was drunk at the time, Wilbanks said.

Eller was originally tried as a juvenile. At an Aug. 6 court hearing, the juvenile charges were dropped and replaced by adult charges of burglary and aggravated child molestation. Eller is being held without bond in the Gainesville Regional Youth Detention Center, where he will stay until his next court appearance on Sept. 6, Wilbanks said.
