Gainesville, GA--  (submitted by City of Gainesville)  The Gainesville Police Department would like to announce that it will be hosting its 8th annual “Shop with a Gainesville Cop” on December 17, 2010 at 11:00 am. This annual event will take place at the Gainesville Wal-Mart store.

Officers from the Gainesville Police Department along with the jolly old man himself, Santa Claus will be hosting children and their families for this special day. Officers have already accepted applications and picked families in need this year. Officers will be giving gifts to children who would not ordinarily be receiving much if anything this year. Officers will be helping more than 16 families in need this year.

The Gainesville Police Department has received cash donations from Wal-Mart and the Rotary Club of Gainesville to make this special event possible.

The meeting is open to the public.

Last Chance to Donate to Bank of North Georgia's ongoing Holiday Toy Drive

Atlanta, GA--  (Submitted by Bank of North Georgia)  There are literally thousands of families in desperate need of assistance during the holiday season, so the Bank of North Georgia is hosting a Holiday Toy Drive from November 26 through December 17 at all 42 branches in metro Atlanta. Last year, the bank collected a total of 1,850 toys for children.

“Bank of North Georgia is very much at the heart of community life in Metro Atlanta, supporting those institutions and programs that make the communities we serve desirable places to live and work. Our branch teams are excited to embrace a local charity this season by collecting new, unwrapped toys to help local families. We are hoping that all children will have a joyous holiday this year,” said Don Howard, Chairman and CEO of Bank of North Georgia.

Each branch selected a local charity to support as outlined below.

North Hall Park & Community Center-Library Construction begins this Month

Atlanta, GA--  The Hall County Board of Commissioners approved a $9.73-million contract late last week for construction of the North Hall Park and Community Center-Library on Nopone Road. Grading work is already under way, and the remaining construction will begin within the next two weeks. Charles Black Construction is the construction manager for the project.

North Hall Park, the community center and library are 1-cent sales tax projects approved by the voters for central North Hall. The commission voted on the Nopone Road site in February.

The first phase of North Hall Park will include four Little League baseball fields, a running track, walking trails, multipurpose field, and a children’s play area. Future phases will include more a recreational lawn, sports fields, hiking/bicycling trails and natural areas.

Atlanta, GA--  Just in time for Black Friday and Cyber Monday, the United Way of Metropolitan Atlanta is sponsoring “Gift Back: An Online Auction” for the first time.  Dozens of items and packages will be available for bids from Nov. 26 through Dec. 6, 2010, by logging on to unitedwayatlanta.org.

Anyone wishing to nab one or more of the wonderful items, donated by local and national organizations, should bid and bid often to increase their chances of winning. Once bidding ends Dec. 6 at midnight, those with winning bids will be contacted by a United Way representative.

This is a public auction.  Funds will go toward reaching the United Way 2010 fundraising goal of $80.2 million. Some of the items available for bids include a trip to Super Bowl, tickets to the Tony Awards, Emmy Awards, Cancun getaway, a night with the Atlanta Braves, artwork, collectibles, airline tickets, Olympics paraphernalia and much, much more.

Photogenic baby from Cumming will be featured in the new issue of Babytalk Magazine

Atlanta, GA--  A local Cumming baby, Kolsen Chisholm, was a finalist in the Babytalk/GMA Digital Cover Contest and is featured in Babytalk’s December/January 2011 issue!

Kolsen was one of eight semi-finalists and received an all-expense-paid trip to New York City for a professional photo shoot in September.  From the photos taken at the shoot three finalists were selected to appear on Good Morning America Digital where visitors voted to choose the winning baby, who appears on the cover of the December/January 2011 issue of Babytalk magazine.

On set, Kolsen was given the name "Cheeks" and his "It Factor" was his bright eyes.
