With all the hype and Black Friday campouts at Best Buys and Toys R Us, you'd guess that the majority of holiday shopping budgets go to purchases like electronics, toys and clothing. But according to new research, the biggest share what comes out of your holiday wallet actually goes to ... groceries and restaurants.

New data from Card-Linked Marketing leader Cardlytics -- collected from millions of U.S. households over the past two years -- shows what consumers actually spend their money on during the holiday season.  When it comes to holiday shopping Americans are spending 24% of their budget on groceries followed by restaurants and apparel.  Toy purchases are actually at the bottom of the list.

ATLANTA -- The wave of couponers' cries heard in the Midwest and Texas has finally hit the Southeast!

For years, we have enjoyed the everyday doubling of coupons $0.50 and less. We got FREE items because of this great policy and it made handling an almost impossible budget easier for us couponers and savvy shoppers.

While I am not saying that this will hurt us (I will be posting some other things Kroger is doing), it does have me wondering -- in this competitive Atlanta market, where we use more coupons per capita then ANYWHERE in the US -- how will this fare? Will Publix jump on the bandwagon?

The end of double coupons becomes effective September 21, 2013. For this couponer, I will be having to double check my shopping list with this new rule. It's not fun, but a lot of new things are coming from Kroger, and I think this is why the program of double couponing is ending.

Local nonprofits gain grant to help domestic violence victims in Georgia

ATLANTA -- The Judicial Council of Georgia Domestic Violence Committee awarded a grant on Friday that will go towards the work of nine nonprofit organizations in and near Atlanta. 

The grant of almost $1.6 million will help bring legal services to around 4,500 people with low income around Georgia who have suffered from domestic violence and are working to bounce back. A spokeswoman for the Judicial Council reported that the funds are given each year to develop domestic violence training and legal services for victims.

According to the spokeswoman, not included are divorces, deportations and other matters which are not related with the victim's safety, along with economic security.

(ATLANTA BUSINESS CHRONICLE) -- U-Haul International, Inc. ranks Atlanta No. 26 on its annual U-Haul National Migration Trend Report released Friday that measures the nation's top growth areas for families that moved during the past year. 

Pittsburg takes the top spot with the highest percentage of growth, U-Haul said. 

"The report, reflective of growth patterns in the United States during 2012, was complied based on nationwide trends in cities of all sizes and reflects communities with more than 5,000 families moving in or out of the area," said John "J.T." Taylor, president, U-Haul International, Inc.

"Growth cities were then determined by calculating the percentage of inbound moves vs. outbound moves for each area," Taylor added.

The U-Haul 2012 Top U.S. Growth Cities Report was compiled from more than 1.6 million U-Haul one-way truck transactions, the company said.

ATLANTA -- Coca-Cola and Firehouse Subs are partnering for a national sweepstakes centered on stock car racing.

Coca-Cola is sponsoring the Coca-Cola Photo Finish sweepstakes at Firehouse Subs locations through Apr. 21.

During the contest, life-size cutouts of participating Coca-Cola Racing Family members will be placed in FIrehouse Subs locations. Firehouse Subs guests can snap a photo with the cutout and submit it to win. Guests can submit photos via text to cocacolaphotofinish.com, or entries can be mailed.

Participating drivers include Joey Logano, representing the Georgia and Gulf region; Greg Biffle, representing the West and Central region; Danica Patrick, representing the Florida region; Denny Hamlin, representing the South region; and Tony Stewart, representing the Mid-Atlantic region.

GWINNETT COUNTY -- Partnership Gwinnett and the Gwinnett Chamber Economic Development recognized twelve local companies who made the UGA Alumni Association's 2013 Bulldog 100 on Friday. 

UGA recognizes 100 of the fastest-growing businesses across the nation that are either owner or run by UGA alumni. 

"With more than 700 nominations for the 2013 Bulldog 100, businesses included on the list have proven to be highly competitive, successful companies," Stan Jackson, Director of Communications for the UGA Alumni Association. 

The twelve companies to make the list include Sovereign Systems (#3), Asa Carlton, Inc. (#22), The Service Team of Re/Max Legends (#29), RIA Solutions (#39), i9 Sports of NW Gwinnett & Hall Counties (#42), NovoLogic, Inc.
