Local 10-year-old author to make appearance at Barnes & Noble

During the school year, young author Sarah Voskamp who believes that “You don’t have to be big to do big things,” is a sought-after speaker in elementary schools throughout North Georgia and Ontario, Canada. Since her book, Filly Girls, was first published in December of 2010, Voskamp’s popularity among seven to twelve year olds has steadily grown. Now Voskamp will be making an appearance and signing and selling her book at the Barnes and Noble Bookstore at The Avenue in Cumming on Tuesday, July 26th from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m.

The book is about three horseback-riding best friends who learn what it takes to go after their dreams and then live with the outcome, even though it might not be what they expected. According to Publisher Terri Leidich, of Boutique of Quality Books Publishing Company, “Sarah’s main character, Ellie Kerhage, is a precocious, rather spoiled twelve-year-old girl who is used to getting her way. Yet this young author does a great job in taking the adolescent reader along on the journey as Ellie learns some valuable life lessons.”

Voskamp readily admits that she has other interests along with reading and writing, so her publisher has arranged that each Filly Girls book that is purchased during this event will be accompanied by a $5.00 game coupon for Stars and Strikes Entertainment Center as well as a coupon for  a free kids meal  from Chick-Fil-A.

A media star in her own right, Voskamp has appeared on television shows and has been written about in a variety of print and online publications in North Georgia as well as Ontario, Canada, where her parents are originally from. Yet the limelight is not in the least bit intimidating to the young girl who answers questions with calm and poise that isn’t always present in authors several times her age.

Like most young girls her age, Voskamp has many dreams and aspirations for her life, among them the desire to continue writing and eventually become the next J.K. Rowling.
