Firefighters to recognize Breast Cancer

From October 1st-9th, Gainesville and Hall County Firefighters will be wearing pink T-shirts to in recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The two fire departments together sold almost 1,000 shirts, netting $2,000 for the Susan G. Komen breast cancer foundation.

“Our firefighters really supported this cause, especially because the wife of one of our firefighters is currently battling breast cancer,” Hall County Fire Chief David Kimbrell said. “Knowing that the Gainesville Fire Department’s Administrative Chief, Debbie Truelove, is a breast cancer survivor, we thought we’d make this a team effort.”

The departments hope to make this fundraiser an annual event and possibly expand it to all city and county employees next year.
